When Would Metal Garage Cabinets Make Sense?
When most people think about garage cabinetry, they think about those particle board wood prefab options you often find at the local hardware store. But if you want a product that lasts and brings value to your space, we recommend steel garage cabinets. Talking about steel or metal garage cabinets may call to mind images of an industrial space, but it's time to shake off those ideas. Our metal garage cabinets are made to be customized, which means we can provide a range of color options, sizes, and configurations to perfectly suit your space and your aesthetic desires. Do you want to show off your beautifully restored classic car or provide a full-service home for your new Tesla? Our garage design team can help to create the perfect blend of form and function to provide for your storage needs while supporting your four-wheeled pride and joy.
Don't feel like you need to use your garage as a traditional garage either. Steel garage cabinets can be a great jumping-off point to convert your garage into a usable living space. With purposeful, custom design, we can help you convert your garage into a game room, man cave, second living room, or whatever makes the most sense for your home. One of the greatest features of steel garage cabinets in particular is how versatile and customizable they are. But why choose metal garage cabinets over the other options? Here are a few reasons to consider going with steel garage cabinets:
Climate Concerns
It's no surprise that we get a lot of humidity around the Bay Area. If you have lived in the area for a while, you have probably already experienced all the ways in which the moisture and salt in the air can impact your home. That humidity can cause those prefab particle board wood cabinets to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Initially, it may look like a bit of warping, which is unsightly but otherwise not a problem. But over time, the ongoing expansion and contracting will wreck those particle board wood cabinets, and the warping will lead to weak points that eventually crack apart. Metal garage cabinets don't have that problem, and ours are coated to protect against damage from rusting.
Better Customization
The most useful parts of any home are those elements that were made for a given space. Think about your kitchen; the custom cabinetry in there not only stores your kitchen wares and provides work space, but that custom structure also helps to create a flow. Likewise, options like adding a custom garage wall system and metal cabinets can give you a purpose-built space in which to work, store, and enjoy. If you're looking to turn your garage into a man cave, custom cabinets can create needed storage, work as a built-in bar, and also create delineations within the space. Since we provide 3D renderings before we get started, you will get a clear picture of what those custom metal garage cabinets will look like within your space, and how they will provide form to your space as well as function. This is especially helpful if you want to convert your garage into a living space.
Improved Return on Investment
For most homeowners, the garage is a sort of non-entity as far as value goes. From a home valuation standpoint, a home is worth more when it has a garage — but from a buyer's perspective, it can be difficult to see that value if the garage is full of unorganized piles. One key difference between choosing prefab and adding metal cabinets is the return on investment. Prefab cabinets quickly look old and worn; conversely, custom metal cabinets fit the space better, last longer, and are made to provide a better return on investment because of those features. A garage that provides durable built-in storage solutions is more appealing to potential buyers. A garage that has been converted into additional living space can be even more appealing, and can help boost your home's value in the long term.
Decrease in Clutter
One of the most common complaints we hear from clients seeking custom garage cabinets is the need to deal with excessive clutter. It's easy for piles to grow in the garage if it doesn't have organization or purpose. What may start as a few stacks of seasonal items against the wall can easily grow into piles of clutter filling your garage to the point that you can't even park your car inside. Fortunately, the weather we get here in the Bay Area is nice enough that protecting your vehicle isn't a huge worry. However, those piles of clutter are an eyesore and make a space in your home basically unusable.
One of the primary goals we focus on when creating a custom garage cabinet design is to ensure that there are the right number of different drawers and cabinet sizes based on your needs. That means adding the right amount of storage not only for the size of your space, but also based on your hobbies and storage needs. For example, if your family are all avid anglers, we can talk about tall, narrow storage to safely store all of your rods, plus plenty of drawer space to organize various flies, hooks, bobbers, and so on. Not only will custom garage cabinets help get rid of the clutter, but they will also help give more specific purpose to your garage, no matter how you choose to use the space.
Create a Space You Want to Use
A big part of adding more value to your garage, both in the short term and over time, is to give it a specific purpose. Yes, nominally your garage already has a stated purpose. But for so many people, the garage just becomes an extension of their home's storage space, rather than a place to park their vehicle. There is nothing wrong with that, but there is a big difference between storing boxes in the garage versus making your garage a storage space. No matter how you choose to use your garage — and options range from traditional garage uses and storage to pretty much any kind of living space — custom garage design helps gives that space a specific purpose.
It might sound like a simple distinction, but giving your garage a specific purpose helps provide better long-term value, while simultaneously helping your family make the most of that space. For example, purposefully turning your garage into a storage space can provide better use options with superior organization, but it can also help improve the safety of the space by giving you a way to separate and safely store fertilizers, paints and solvents, automotive fluids, and other chemicals. On a bigger scale, garage wall cabinets can designate multiple spaces, like creating a home gym and a home office, within the same room. It’s also a great way to simply create one designated use, like creating a game room or man cave, which will make it a space your family feels encouraged to enjoy.
Our Garage Design Process
Here at Garage Solutions, we are a solutions-focused custom garage design company. Our primary goal is to help turn your garage into the useful, usable space you want it to be. We do this through things like custom garage cabinets and durable flooring, but we also recognize that the garage remodel process can seem intimidating, especially to those who may be expecting a whole lot of hassle. We have years of experience working with clients across the Bay Area and a lot of Northern California, and we have honed our design process down to a science. Here's what you can expect:
The Initial Consultation
All of our garage designs are planned based on a client's specific needs. In order to make sure our plans will fit your needs and your space, we need to get to know both. We start the garage design process with a consultation. We'll get to know what you're looking for, what you hope to accomplish with the space, and what your current pain points are. We'll also talk about budget, timeline, and must-haves versus nice-to-haves so we can meet your expectations. Our goal is a garage design that fits your specific needs and space without surprises.
Visiting the Space
We always start by talking with our clients because you and your needs come first. Once we've done that, then we'll take a look at your garage to see what kind of space we'll be working with. Going through your garage is a relatively quick process; you can anticipate our technician taking around 45 minutes to get all the measurements we might need to complete your garage design project properly. During this time, we'll also discuss options for your metal cabinets, garage wall systems, and other storage solutions. This is also the point at which we will show you cabinet, shelving, and flooring samples so you can see how the colors and materials will look in your space.
3D Renderings
After the initial consultation and measurements, our design team will get to work on mapping out a solid plan for your space based on all of that information we've discussed with you. When the designs are ready, we'll deliver a 3D rendering of the proposed garage design. This CAG (computer-aided garage) drawing will give you a clear picture of all the details. If you're not happy with the plan, that 3D rendering gives us an easy way to discuss alterations and other options. The 3D rendering is also our way of giving you as much information as possible about your project so there will not be any confusion or surprises. When we've mocked up a design you like, give us the stamp of approval and we'll get going!
The Installation Process
Once all of the designs and materials are approved, we'll talk installation. When we have the initial consultation, we discuss timeline, but that question is going to come up once more, just to be sure nothing has changed. We'll schedule your installation according to your time constraints, then on the appointed day, our garage design team will arrive with goods at hand to provide the professional, expedient installation we are known for. From there, watch as our meticulous attention to detail unfolds into an amazing garage transformation!
